Angelina Jolie's New $100,000 Donation
Angelina Jolie may be busy filming Maleficent, but that’s not going to get in the way of her mission to help save the world.
We just got word that the Hollywood superstar has once again opened up her checkbook…
Jolie made a $100,000 donation today to the U.N. Refugee Agency to help supports its work with Syrian refugees.
She released a special message this morning to mark World Refugee Day.
“In the past year 4.3 million people have become displaced,” the message reads, in part. “There are still 2.7 million refugees from Afghanistan; 12 million people are stateless. And for the fifth consecutive year the number of forcibly displaced people worldwide exceeded 42 million.”
Jolie is a special envoy of the UNHCR.
She also wrote, “The international community should rededicate itself to preventing conflict, addressing it when it erupts, and solving it more quickly, for that is the only way to create durable solutions for the refugees whose strength inspires us on this World Refugee Day.”
Donations to the agency provide protection, shelter, clean water and life-saving assistance to refugees around the world.
“Every individual refugee matters,” Jolie wrote. “Each has their own story. Each has suffered and survived more than I could ever bear. And yet, they rise up to live another day.”
