Avril Lavigne: Hansen collaboration is cool

Avril Lavigne says working with Sally Hansen on a nail collection was “pretty much the coolest thing”.

The 27-year-old songstress has signed a deal to create a limited edition collection for the beauty giant. It includes 12 designs of nail polish strips which are inspired by Avril’s signature quirky style.

The star already has clothing line Abbey Dawn, and says collaborating with Sally Hansen is a fabulous opportunity to expand her creativity.

“This is pretty much the coolest thing, because I also do clothing — I love clothing, nails and fragrance, hair, make-up, all that stuff,” she told WWD. “I’m a really visual person; I like creating, and I love to have fun with colours. I think this offers self-expression, and it’s a really smart, versatile way to show your style. I think my fans will really like it, because it’s easy and simple and fun.”

Avril loves her nails to be bang on trend. The Canadian singer is thrilled to be putting her own stamp on the upcoming line.

“I was really excited about the Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips — especially since they’re super quick. You clean your nails, peel the strips and apply them, file and go. I’m superfast at it, so it takes me like five minutes to do my nails. And it’s super cool because the designs that I came up with are my personal style and vibe — they’re rock ’n’ roll and fun and bright and colourful. You have sparkles and little stars — they are cute.

“For me, I’ll be flying on a plane and be like, ‘Sh*t, I need to do my nails.’ I can do these on a plane; I’ve done them in the car.”

Sally Hansen and Coty are thrilled to have Avril on board. They believe the star has a strong fashion following.

“Avril is a pop music icon, but she has also become a fashion inspiration, known worldwide for her edgy, yet feminine style,” said Steve Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing for Coty Beauty.

“We believe this new collection will appeal to Avril fans and trendsetters alike. She appeals to a younger generation of girls, which makes her a perfect fit for Salon Effects,” Annette Devita, vice president of marketing for Sally Hansen added.

Avril’s limited edition nails will be launched globally in April.
