Jessica Simpson is just days away from giving birth to a reported daughter. But what should be a joyous time in the singer’s life is being marred by a media firestorm surrounding Simpson’s weight gain. According to Jessica, she’s gained around 40 pounds during her pregnancy and hasn’t shied away from cravings like buttered Poptarts. However, that weight gain has landed the singer-turned-fashion-star in the crosshairs of bullies in both the media and online, who’ve slammed Simpson for her supposedly “unhealthy” pregnancy weight with headlines like “Jessica Simpson’s Excessive Weight Gain” and “Jessica Simpson: It’s Not Twins.”

Joy Behar, co-host of “The View,” even said: “Remember the the time that Jessica Simpson was criticized because she didn’t know the difference between chicken and tuna? That kind of thing is more fun to criticize than the fact that the girl is fat. Most women who are pregnant are not supposed to gain more than 25 pounds. She looks like she gained a lot more than that!”

With so much negativity surrounding Jess’ baby weight, other Hollywood moms are coming forward to stand up for the embattled pregnant star — like Tori Spelling and ’90s girl group Wilson Phillips.

Wilson Phillips in particular are no stranger to media scrutiny over their weight. Member Carnie Wilson’s weight fluctuations have been well documented in the media over the years. So naturally, when we chatted with the ladies a few weeks back, they had more than a few words of support of the bullied Simpson. “People in the media are under the microscope,” shares Chynna Phillips. “America in general are so obsessed with weight. It’s horrible.”

“I will say something about Jessica. She has always said ‘I fluctuate, I go up, I go down, and I’m happy either way,” adds Carnie. “I love her pregnant like this. I love pregnant women. I want plump pregnant women. I think it’s the cutest thing in the world and if someone doesn’t like that, tough s—!”

“She has a huge belly. When you look at it you go, ‘Whoa, that’s a pregnant woman.’” continues Carnie. “I don’t sit there and go, ‘That’s a fat woman.’ So her belly’s different than another pregnant woman, who cares! Why do we focus on that? Please tell me!”

“My husband thinks pregnant women are the hottest thing ever. He sees a pregnant woman, even if I’m right there, and he’s like ‘You’re so sexy, you are so hot!’” interjects Chynna. “Jessica’s super sexy, and she’s like the richest girl in the world. All’s good with Jessica Simpson.”

And getting in the last word (as she’s known to do) Carnie pipes in: “I love it, I think she looks fantastic. She’s very pregnant, about to have a baby, and it’s going to enrich and change her life, and that’s what they should focus on!”
