Justin Bieber does not lack confidence. The Canadian pop superstar has been promising great things from his upcoming album Believe since before he’d given it a name, claiming that it would include stellar tracks from several different genres. Naturally, this includes dubstep, as even ex-Disney stars have edged into that game.
On Monday, Bieber unleashed his track “As Long As You Love Me” on iTunes after having Twitter-teased them for hours. The song is, unfortunately, not a cover of the Backstreet Boys’ 1997 hit, but a psuedo-sexy pop track about love that can persevere in times of desperation. Don’t be fooled ladies: Justin may ride around in Mercedes Benz vans custom fitted with recording studios, but he doesn’t really need any of it when he’s in love: “As you long as you love me / We could be starving / We could be homeless / We could be broke.” All of this to a trendy dubstep beat punctuated by a verse or two from Big Sean.
If you don’t feel like plunking down $1.29 for the song, check it out in the 8-minute Believe sampler released late Sunday evening. The sampler also features a snippet of “Maria,” the song Justin Bieber has referred to as his “Billie Jean.” Bieber wrote the song after a young woman named Mariah Yeater accused him of impregnating her in a Staples Center bathroom.
““It was something I wanted to get off my chest, and I could just say it in a song and get my point across without having to worry about the words I’m using in an interview,” Bieber told Billboard.
