Several tunes from both artists have been deemed unplayable in the country, and banned from being played on the radio or performed live due to their ‘vulgar content’.

Songs including 26-year-old Perry’s Last Friday Night were not approved by the Chinese authorities, and as a result must be removed from any Chinese websites by September 15.

Gaga, 25, real name Stefani Germanotta, managed to get six songs on the banned list, including The Edge of Glory, Americano, Hair, Marry the Night, Bloody Mary and Judas.

According to British newspaper The Guardian, a number of the hits on the list are sung by artists from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
