Katy Perry backs out of People’s Choice Awards appearance following Russell Brand split
After all the tabloid rumors she’s had to fend off these past few weeks, Katy Perry isn’t looking to spark any more fireworks on the red carpet.
The singer took to Twitter Monday to inform her disappointed Katycats that she won’t be making her much-anticipated cameo at this year’s People’s Choice Awards.
“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards,” she wrote. “I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!”
Earlier this month, rumors swirled that Perry’s soon-to-be-ex-husband Russell Brand, 36, had been “uninvited” from the awards ceremony in order to avoid an awkward encounter, but his rep has since confirmed that Brand was never set to attend.
Brand filed for divorce from Perry, 27, on Dec. 30, and the pair have been relatively mum about their split since.
The singer did, however, set the record straight on Twitter that “no one speaks” for her, “not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.”
Perry is nominated for seven awards, including favorite female artist and favorite song of the year, at Wednesday’s ceremony.
