Kesha Kanakiya’s Bharata Natyam Arangetram – WSB
You are cordially invited to attend Kesha Kanakiya’s Bharat Natyam Arangetram. Seating starts at 1:30 PM, event starts sharp at 2:00 PM. Bharata Natyam is the most ancient dance of India. It originated in the temples, long before the written word was developed. It went through a decline during Mughal and Colonial India, but was revived in the late 20th century. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma (one god of the divine trilogy) created the Natyadeva. He asked Sage Bharata to popularize the work, and so, Sage Bharata wrote the Natyashastra, a work containing the foundations of Bharat Natyam. The word Bharata is derived from “bhava”, meaning expression, “raga”, meaning music, and “tala”, meaning rhythm. “Natyam” means dance. The word arangetram is derived from the Tamil words, “arang” which means stage and “etram” which means ascending. Therefore, “arangetram” literally means ascending the stage. An arangetram is the occasion where the student is presented to the audience by her guru. It consists of the performances of the core Bharata Natyam items that make up a dancer’s margam, or repertoire. An arangetram marks the end of the initial training of a student, and the beginning of a new phase as a Bharata Natyam dancer.
Please join us in celebrating Kesha’s journey of dance.A dinner will be hosted at Holiday Inn Atlanta/Roswell (909 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell, GA 30076) after the ceremony.
