Russell Brand says he was ‘very happy to be married’ to Katy Perry, adding: ‘I still love her’
Not all Hollywood marriages have to end in scandal.
Russell Brand, who pulled the plug on his 14-month marriage to Katy Perry by filing for divorce Dec. 30, insists he has nothing but praise for his ex-wife.
“I still love her as a human being,” the comedian told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show Thursday. “But sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything.
“I was very happy to be married with her. She’s such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her.”
The funnyman added that the two are still on good terms, and the decision to call off their marriage was a result of some serious introspection.
“You can’t absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life,” he said. “Sometimes things are just different and then you have to just move with that and try and remain in contact with what is beautiful about yourself and each other with any situation.”
Both Perry, 27, and Brand, 36, have seemingly moved on from their split.
The “Part of Me” singer was spotted canoodling with new boy toy Robert Ackroyd, guitarist for Florence + The Machine, at Coachella in April, and Brand has been photographed with a bevy of beauties, ranging from artist Oriela Medellin to Hungarian model Nikolett Barabas.
Ironically, nearly six months ago, Brand sat on the same couch on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and proclaimed that he and Perry were not having marital woes as the media was reporting.
“Yeah, there are always rumors, aren’t there?” he asked DeGeneres at the time. “In the end, you have to just not engage with Internet technology, which is difficult because of a lot of the nude women websites I quite enjoy.
“But they’ve had to go. I’ve treated the whole Internet now like it’s a wicked little liar. Yeah. I am really happily married.”
