Should Angelina Jolie Make Another Movie with Brad Pitt?

With Angelina Jolie acting more like Mother Teresa than Meryl Streep these days, her future as a movie actress remains a mystery. A film she allegedly wrote and directed will hit theatres in December, and there is buzz the brunette beauty will get a bigger role with the United Nations as a Special Representative instead of just an ordinary goodwill ambassador.

Jolie’s main claim to fame, however, is as an actress, and her films have been fizzles in recent years. Recent movies such as “Salt” and “The Tourist” make it seem like acting has become just an asterisk to her roles as mother, domestic partner and do-gooder.

Part of the pouty lipped actress’s ability to get attention rests in her box office cachet, and without another big movie under her belt, she could be labeled a has-been and lose the media magnetism she needs for her global missions.

One possible way for the “Girl, Interrupted” actress to put some pizazz in her career would be to partner with Brad Pitt in another movie. The two became romantically involved while starring together in the action comedy, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Although they played a married couple in the movie, Pitt was inconveniently married to Jennifer Aniston at the time, whom he ditched for his movie wife.

Twice this year, the “Fight Club” actor has made public statements he would like to do more movies with long-time girlfriend Jolie (the two have yet to marry despite rampant rumors), who is also the mother of his six children. So what’s holding her back? Surely she has more to gain from the match-up since Pitt’s recent movie “Moneyball” has made him a box office hottie again.

Promoting his movie “The Tree of Life” in Cannes this past May, Pitt said of a future movie pairing, “We’re not ones to repeat ourselves, but we’d like to, because right now, we’re hopscotching with films so one can be with the kids and one’s free to work . . . . Why aren’t we doing them together? Why aren’t we doing everything together?”

More recently, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in September, the “Meet Joe Black” star repeated his desire to decorate a movie set with Jolie, “We should be doing everything together, and then we could work less. We could have more time off.”

The intentionally scruffy actor acknowledged the couple’s policy for only one of them to be working at a time means that one of them is always working and they have less family time together.

Other famous romantic couples from the past have made multiple movies together — from Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz to Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Pitt and Jolie could follow suit — whether playing opposing lawyers in a court case or meeting cute at a refugee camp.

The downside, of course, is that appearing together on the big screen could puncture the public’s obsessive curiosity with them as a real-life couple. The mysteriousness of what makes Brangelina tick could be replaced by the realization that they are just two regular people trying to juggle too many balls.

In another words, they could become just another Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
