Jessica Simpson can “relate” to what Kim Kardashian is going through.
The singer had a similarly public divorce in 2005 following her split from Nick Lachey.
Simpson admits that the process was made all the more difficult because, like Kardashian, the couple were starring in their own reality TV show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
“Yeah, I definitely can relate to [Kim's situation],” she said in an interview with Access Hollywood.
“I understand all eyes being on you especially when you open your world to everybody. Your life is an open book. It is a very difficult thing to go through publicly when you don’t really want to share certain things. There has to be balance.”
The 31-year-old recently announced that she is pregnant with partner Eric Johnson. The couple are planning to marry, but Simpson wants to wait until after the baby is born before they tie the knot.
She is also certain she will not be starring in another reality TV show. The actress-and-singer feels that she wants to spend time away from the cameras with her new family.
“Maybe scripted reality is the way to go!” she laughed. “Letting everybody in on every detail of your life is a hard thing to do. I feel like for me those days are over.”
Simpson says she found out about her pregnancy while checking to make sure she could drink champagne during a romantic weekend away with her fiance and some friends.
The pop star-turned-businesswoman suspected she was with child and decided to make sure before heading off on a boozy break.
“I was just kinda feeling a little off before we went away for a weekend… and I wanted to make sure I was in the clear to have a couple of glasses of champagne and I was not in the clear.”
Fiance Johnson, who was with Simpson at the time, had no idea the singer was taking a pregnancy test in the bathroom and was “shocked” when she told him about the baby.
“I came in, like, shaking, like, ‘Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, this is happening!’ We both cried… We just sat there and stared at each other and were like, ‘OK, we’re doing this!’”
The star, who publicly confirmed rumours about her pregnancy at Halloween, admits she is enjoying life as an expectant mum.
She adds, “Pregnancy is a friend of mine, so everything has been running smoothly. So far so good, no morning sickness. I feel great. I’m tired but I’m making a baby.”
The singer/actress also says her tastebuds have been turned upside down in recent months.
She tells People.com she can no longer eat pizza because it “tastes sour” and she only ever wants to eat one particular fruit.
“I crave cantaloupe (rockmelon) like a crazy person. But I put salt all over it, so I don’t know if it’s that healthy. I crave anything salty and sweet. That mixture to me is so good. I can eat a whole cantaloupe in one morning.”
Simpson isn’t the only star who craved melon while pregnant – Jessica Alba gobbled chunks of watermelon while she was expecting baby Haven.
