Taylor Swift donates $150,000 to Tuscaloosa City Schools tornado relief fund
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Grammy-winning country music artist Taylor Swift has donated $150,000 to the Tuscaloosa City Schools’ Disaster Relief Fund to benefit the schools impacted by the April 27 tornado.
Alberta Elementary School, University Place Elementary School and University Place Middle School each will receive $50,000 as they seek to replace supplies and materials following the devastating storm that ripped through the city.
Swift raised the money by opening the final dress rehearsal of her “Speak Now” summer tour in May to fans as a fund-raiser for the victims of the storm.
Alberta Elementary Principal Brenda Parker said her school was humbled and grateful at the outpouring of support from Swift and her fans and that the donation will help replace and enhance technology in their daily curriculum for their students.
