Taylor Swift’s eyelashes cause a flutter of controversy
If you’re a fan of Taylor Swift, you probably appreciate her beauty as much as her music. If you like her style, you may have even found yourself trying to copy it. Perhaps you rushed out to Macy’s at Mid Rivers Mall to pick up your very own Taylor Swift Wonderstruck fragrance or started shopping St. Louis Target stores to find the Cover Girl cosmetics that Taylor models. If so, you’re not alone. However, girls wanting to look like Taylor Swift is exactly what has one agency demanding that recent pictures of Taylor Swift be removed from the public eye.
Though there’s no denying that country music superstar, Taylor Swift, is a beautiful young woman, it seems, to some anyway, that Taylor Swift may be a little bit too beautiful. In the spring of 2010, Taylor Swift was chosen to be the latest face of Cover Girl cosmetics. But now, Taylor Swift’s pretty face on Cover Girl’s latest ad is causing quite an uproar.
Though Taylor Swift hasn’t done anything wrong, the folks at Cover Girl have come under the gun for enhancing the Taylor Swift photos in which she was said to be modeling Cover Girl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara. Taylor is shown with very dark, lush eyelashes, supposedly the result of wearing the Cover Girl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara. However, in the print ads, Cover Girl included a disclaimer that turned out to be a lit stick of dynamite to the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. That disclaimer basically said that the print ad had been digitally enhanced in post production.
The National Advertising Division states that advertisements must depict products in such a way that shows their actual, truthful results. Products can not be enhanced in print, even if a disclaimer is added. In response to the controversy, Cover Girl has pulled the print ad, which seems to have satisfied the NAD in the matter. Taylor Swift will fulfill her contract with Cover Girl as agreed, but it looks like at least one photo shoot will scrapped unless Cover Girl decides to reissue the photos in their unaltered state.
Since Taylor Swift’s eyelashes have already caused enough flutter of bad press, it seems unlikely that even if possible, Cover Girl would resubmit the same poses to public scrutiny. Though for now, Taylor Swift’s pretty face may be missing from your favorite magazines, you can take heart that her sweet voice will still come over loud and clear on WIL 92.3 FM.
