Two more plead guilty in Carson St. shooting

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011 | Kesha

BARSTOW • A pair of women accused of aiding in the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old Barstow woman joined a third woman in pleading guilty to accessory charges on Wednesday.

Laticia Davis was shot multiple times on Aug. 2 on the 900 block of Carson Street and later died at Barstow Community Hospital.

Angelica Webb, 26, and La Kesha Nelson, 36, were two of four people arrested after Davis’ death. Webb was originally charged with murder and conspiracy to commit a crime and Nelson was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and accessory after the fact.

Both Webb and Nelson pleaded guilty to accessory charges on Wednesday, according to Deputy District Attorney Connie Lasky. Webb’s plea deal is for 210 days in county jail with felony probation, while Nelson is expected to receive 270 days in county jail with felony probation. Their additional charges were dropped as a result of the plea.

A third woman arrested in the case, Kathy Hunter, 54, pleaded guilty to accessory charges last week and was sentenced to 487 days in prison.

“With these pleas, we can concentrate on convicting Ross for the murder,” said Lasky.

According to police, the shooting appears to have stemmed from a feud between neighbors that had been going on for weeks. Davis did not live in the duplex apartment on Carson Street, but was visiting a friend who lived there on the night she was killed.

According to prosecutors, Webb helped the alleged shooter, Charles Ross, 38, by driving him to Walmart before the shooting so he could purchase shotgun shells. Webb then filled her pockets with shotgun shells before allegedly driving Ross to Carson Street.

A Barstow Police report stated that detectives found information and evidence that Nelson was a principal party involved in the planning of Davis’ shooting.

Webb and Nelson are scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 5.

Ross remains in custody and his next scheduled hearing is set for Nov. 29.
