Scantily-clad singers and lewd dance routines are to be cut from pre-watershed programmes in a long overdue Ofcom crackdown.

The regulator has finally set out stringent guidelines for programmes aired before 9pm when children are most likely to be watching.

This will mean that Rihanna and
Christina Aguilera will have to cover up if they want to appear on The X
Factor again as Ofcom cracks down on the sexualisation of children.

The new rules follow widespread criticism, highlighted in the Daily
Mail, that Ofcom was too lenient over provocative performances on the X
Factor final last year.

The talent show’s pre-watershed final
last year attracted around 4,500 complaints over the racy dance routines
it
featured from the semi-naked pop stars but Ofcom cleared the programme
for viewing by family audiences, prompting criticism that it was
