Zooey Deschanel is always mistaken for Katy Perry, but perhaps not for long.

Zooey Deschanel doesn’t know much about Katy Perry, but people don’t seem to care.

“I probably answer more questions about her than about my own family,” Deschanel, 31, said to New York magazine.

“I met her twice six years ago,” the actress, who also dabbles in indie rock band She Him, added. “It’s a strange relationship to have with somebody.”

Soon enough, Perry might start getting the same sort of questions.

Deschanel, who’s long been a cult favorite but not quite a household name, is starring in “The New Girl,” which premieres Sept. 20 on Fox in the coveted spot directly following “Glee.”

The series follows her character, Jess, who moves into an apartment after a bad breakup and proceeds to mortify and charm (in that sitcom kind of way) her roommates and, hopefully, viewers as well.

What the show’s producers are banking on is Deschanel’s big-eyed appeal, something that’s beautiful and intriguing but not the same as your average TV bombshell’s.

Indeed, when she was preparing for the screening, she realized the outfit she wanted to wear had been photographed before.

“I only found out last minute there were going to be cameras,” she said. “I was going to wear this old dress I’ve worn to, like, eight events. Do you think this one is a little too … sexy?”

The mag’s reporter said Deschanel pronounced that last word strangely and screwed up her face when she did so, as if she wasn’t comfortable using it at all.

Still, it’s an idea that the actress, who has appeared in “(500) Days of Summer” and “Almost Famous,” needs to get used to.
